"Toss-A-Name" Game in Nature

“Toss-A-Name” Game in Nature

Practice: Students pick up stones and pieces of wood from the nature to surround the playground. Students are briefed about the “toss-a-name” game. Students form a circle. To start the game, one of the students volunteers. S/he calls the name of one of the students and throws the ball into the air. If the student whose name is called catches the ball in the air while the ball is falling to the ground, s/he throws it into the air again by calling someone else’s name. If a student cannot catch the ball in the air, s/he shouts “Stop” while picking the ball up from the ground. Students running around have to stop when they hear “Stop!”. In this case, the student who has the ball tries to hit one of the standing students with the ball. The student who is hit with the ball loses one point and becomes the next person to throw the ball. Any student who is hit three times is given a name. The game continues until one unnamed student remains. After the game is played, students put the items back into their natural state. They are informed that nature needs to be left as we find it and that “what’s natural is beautiful”. Every student participates in the game. At the end of the lesson, short questions are asked about the learning outputs.
