Democracy as a Political Regime

Democracy as a Political Regime

Practice: The class is asked: “Do you think democracy is the best form of government? Why?” Students’ answers are written on the board. Afterwards, these answers are discussed. The video “Why Socrates Was an Enemy of Democracy?” is viewed and Aristotle’s possible concerns about democracy are discussed. The basis for opposition to democracy is also shared by the students. Then, the class is divided into three groups and a debate is held between those who defend the benefits of democracy and those who are concerned about the problems it leads to. And the third group makes a decision as a jury panel about who defends their process better by explaining the key arguments of the discussion and why they are important.
