Practice: Students are divided into groups. Each group is handed some images and short texts about the following: “Child and female workers in the industrial revolution, construction of railways and the function of trains in trade, the foundation of factories, industrialization, urbanization, the establishment of suburbs, reactions against the industrial revolution, and workers’ rights”. Each student in the groups conducts their research to delve further into what they know with reference to one of these topics, and then, as a group, they publish a newspaper for that period. In this activity, students express their thoughts through methods including news stories, articles, essays, cartoons, and photo-novels in accordance with their abilities and desires. Student newspapers are shared in the classroom, the texts are evaluated, and the topics are discussed in detail in the classroom.
