A Comforting Image

A Comforting Image

Practice:

Students are given the following instructions:

“Sit as comfortably as possible. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath through your nose slowly. And slowly breathe out. Expand and inflate your belly as you breathe in deeper. Now, slowly deflate it. Relax your arms. Keep your head free. Keep relaxing your neck. Your back. Your abdomen. Your legs. And your feet. As if you are about to fall asleep. Now, imagine yourself in a very beautiful place out in the nature. It can be a place on the sea or riverside, or on the mountains. Somewhere you would love to be. Visualize this place. The weather is nice and you are there. Select a spot there and imagine yourself doing something you would like to do. Enjoy the place. Now, take a deep breath again and slowly open your eyes.”

“Try to draw a picture of this place using the crayons and a paper without talking. You may not be able to depict it exactly the same beautiful way you imagined but you are who knows how it is the best.”

Students later show their drawings to classmates and if they want to, they can tell about their imaginary place.
