Math is important for understanding the situations encountered in daily life and solving them through assessment and reasoning. Thus, it plays an important role in solving the problems encountered by the society.

 When cooperative learning is carefully planned and practiced in mathematics lessons, it fosters learning environments where students experience and observe appropriate social behavior models. A key role of the planned curriculum is to encourage positive social interactions and relationships in the classroom, while providing an environment that promotes modelling.

 For example, students attempt to create group products in a limited time through distribution of tasks as part of in-class group activities. This sometimes involves placing rational numbers on a number line drawn with electrical tapes on the floor in the classroom, or creating a calliper using different materials (e.g. toothpicks, strings, scissors, tape, etc.).

When focus is placed upon social, emotional, and ethical dimensions of mathematics in real-life situations, or more precisely, when these serve as the three legs of a coffee table, carrying the curriculum, students are able to feel more positive towards mathematics while experiencing real-life skills.
