Peer Support Program

Practice: High school life itself and the responsibilities it entails may negatively impact 9 graders’ adaptation to school, while result in academic and social loss until they can adapt. Accordingly, 12th Graders are the students that can extend the best support to the 9th Graders since they went through that process a couple of years ago. Being successful in high school and taking the right steps on the journey towards university is crucial. Therefore, this practice has an extensive scope. High school life involves exchange of information and experience in numerous areas including examinations, social life, attendance & absence, teacher relationships, career roadmaps, and course selection. This practice also focuses on the points to consider so as to pursue a happy life at high school while maintaining a successful academic life.

When to Use

It can be implemented throughout the year for 9th graders who have just started high school.

Age Level

Mentors are selected from among the 12th graders. Peer support is extended to 9th graders.

Purpose

To facilitate the adaptation process of students who have just started the 9th grade and to strengthen their peer relations and sense of belonging at school. Students who went through similar experiences in the previous years share their experience with fresh starters and develop positive relationships to help them adopt an inclusive attitude and behaviors.
